Changes between 10/03/26 - 10/08/26

Summary

Much of a heat now runs itself. As adjudicators submit, each dance finishes and the next one starts without anyone pressing a button, and when the emcee ends a heat the next one starts and the one after it goes on deck. Organizers can now find or create dancers and enter them in events directly from the competition console. Changes to a dancer's or studio's representation now carry through to upcoming competition entries. And a set of fixes makes scratches and empty rounds behave properly for adjudicators and scrutineers alike.

System

  • The side navigation in the officials' consoles now marks the heat on the floor with a pulsing dot and the heat on deck with a steady one, so you can see where the running order is at a glance — even with a session collapsed. The emcee's view updates as they move through the running order; other officials see the markers as of when they last loaded the page.

Account

Enhancement

  • The affiliation page now explains what happens to your competition entries when you change it.
  • Changing your country, state, school or studio now also updates your entries in competitions that haven't ended yet, including one happening today. Competitions that have already ended keep the representation they were run with.
  • Professional status, teacher status and membership IDs are not carried over to entries you've already made. Each entry keeps the status it was created with, and the organizer of that competition manages it from there.

Athlete

Enhancement

  • The registration page is faster, particularly when you have a lot of entries or a large Dynamic Event form.

Adjudicator

Enhancement

  • Scoring moves itself along. In an event with several dances, the first adjudicator to submit marks for a dance starts the next dance, so the panel can carry on without waiting for anyone to press Start. When the last adjudicator's marks for a dance arrive, that dance is marked completed automatically. Skipped and canceled dances are passed over.
  • The recall list stops at the target. Once you've recalled as many couples as the round calls for, the Recall button disappears from everyone else and you can't drag anyone else into the recall list. Maybe and No still work, you can still reorder the recall list, and moving a couple out of it brings the Recall buttons back.
  • A notice instead of an empty ballot. When a round has been skipped, the whole scoring screen says so. When a single dance has been skipped or canceled, a notice takes the place of that dance's ballot. And when there's nobody left to score — the round is empty, or every couple has scratched — you'll see a notice rather than a ballot you can't submit.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the final placement ballot losing your work. A couple checking in, scratching, or having their bib number corrected used to reset the whole ballot and throw away a ranking you hadn't submitted yet. Your ranking now stays put: a new couple appears below the field, and a couple who scratches is removed with the rest closing up behind them.
  • Fixed scratched couples still appearing on the final placement ballot, and the system still expecting a placement for them.

Scrutineer

Enhancement

  • Empty rounds can be skipped, including finals. A round with nobody left in it — no entries, or everyone scratched — can now be skipped. This exists mainly for the small event whose last couple scratches before the final is danced. A final that still has couples in it can't be skipped.

Skipping the last round of an event closes the event. It's marked Canceled if that round was the event's only round, since no result was ever produced, and Completed if earlier rounds were danced, since their recalls stand as the record. Any placements already submitted for a skipped final are cleared.

  • Dances now finish on their own once every adjudicator's marks are in, so you only need Finish and Restart for the exceptions.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed being unable to finish a dance in a final after a couple scratched — the system was still waiting for placements for the couple who had left.
  • Fixed tabulation of a multi-dance final failing when a couple had scratched.

Organizer

Features

  • Enter dancers yourself. From the competition console you can now find dancers who are already on Dancesport.app, or create an account for one who isn't, then create their partnerships and enter them in solo and partnered events. It's there for when web registration isn't practical for someone, or when something needs fixing on the day. Any organizer of the competition can do this.
    • Finding a dancer: search by name or email. Type at least three characters; up to twenty matches are shown, so keep typing if the person you want isn't among them.
    • Creating a dancer: enter their first name, last name and email address, and choose whether to send a welcome email with a link to set a password. If the email already belongs to an account, you'll be asked to find that dancer instead.
    • The account you create is the dancer's own ordinary account — it isn't managed by you or by a studio. It starts with no representation filled in and with amateur status, and only the dancer can change that, by signing in and updating the profile.
    • This matters if your competition has Enforce Division Restrictions turned on: a newly created dancer counts as an amateur, so the dancer can't yet be entered in a Professional event, or as the professional half of a Pro/Am couple. For a professional, send the welcome email so the dancer can sign in and set professional status — or, better, find the dancer's existing account instead of creating a new one.

Emcee

Enhancement

  • Starting a heat puts the next one on deck. Press Start, and the next heat in the session is called to the deck automatically.
  • Ending a heat starts the next one. Press End, and the next heat in the session starts — scoring opens and its first dance begins — which in turn puts the heat after it on deck. One press moves the whole running order forward a step. This stays within the session, and a heat that has already started or ended is never pulled back.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed being unable to put a heat on deck or start it when one of its rounds was skipped, already finalized, or empty. Those rounds are now passed over and the rest of the heat goes ahead.
  • Fixed the second half of a ten-dance or nine-dance being pulled back to Queued when its heat was put on deck, even though the first half had already been danced and marked.

Studio

Enhancement

  • Changing your studio's country, state, school or studio now copies the change to every dancer you manage, and to their entries in competitions that haven't ended yet. Only the fields you actually change are copied, so a dancer's own value for a field you didn't touch stays as it is. Professional status, teacher status and membership IDs are never copied to your dancers.
