Changes between 08/15/26 - 08/20/26

Summary

Two themes define this release. The first is what we've taken out: date of birth is gone from the system entirely — the field, the collected data, and the planned age-verification feature — because the privacy cost of holding that data outweighed the convenience of automating a check organizers can make themselves. The second is a milestone in our registration work: with Solo entries now available for Dynamic Events, every registration mode except team and formation entry is available in both Personal and Studio accounts, and we've added automated tests across these flows to help catch regressions.

Alongside those, organizers gain optional division enforcement — a setting that checks each entrant's professional status against an event's division before letting the entry through — plus a new partnership type indicator, session filtering for events, and a number of registration and form fixes. On the public side, we've published our pricing and refreshed the front page.

System

Page titles now update as you move between the Athlete, Adjudicator, Scrutineer, Organizer, Deck Captain, Emcee, Studio, Account, and Admin sections, so browser tabs and history entries are easier to tell apart.
Fixed a display issue where screens between 840 and 1279 pixels wide — many tablets and small laptops — were treated as full desktop, producing cramped layouts.

New Division Type: All

A new division type, All, indicates a division open to every competitor regardless of status — amateur, professional, pro/am, and so on. Divisions of this type carry no restrictions and can be used freely for events open to all dancers.

Removal of Age-related Features

The system previously allowed dancers to submit their date of birth. The intent was to let the registration system automatically enforce age restrictions for events limited to certain age categories, if an organizer chose to enable that.

Because of legal and privacy concerns, we've abandoned this feature and everything planned around it. That means the date of birth field has been removed from the Account Profile form, and every date of birth previously submitted has been permanently deleted from our database. The planned age eligibility check during registration has been dropped as well, along with the code already written for it, and the corresponding Enforce Age Requirement setting has been removed from Competition Settings.

There is therefore no way to verify a competitor's age category through dancesport.app. Age categories are now entirely on the honor system for athletes, and it is the organizer's responsibility to decide whether and how to verify them.

Solo Entries for Dynamic Events

Organizers can now create Dynamic Events with a Solo entry type, and dancers can sign up for them.

This rounds out the current phase of our registration work. Every registration mode except team and formation entry is now available in both Personal and Studio account modes, and we've built out automated end-to-end tests across these flows to help us catch problems early. If you do run into something unexpected during registration, please let us know — we'd rather hear about it than have you work around it.

Additional Changes to Registration

Events created on demand by a Dynamic Event that end up with no entries are now cleaned up automatically at the end of the registration workflow, so they no longer clutter the event list.

Account

Enhancement

Date of birth is no longer a field on the user profile, and all previously submitted data has been deleted from the system.

Athlete

Features

Regular events can now be filtered by session on the registration page.
Partnerships now display a type badge — PRO, AM, or Pro/Am — on the partnership list.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue where an athlete could not sign up for the same event with a different partner even though the organizer had enabled Multiple Entries per Event in competition settings.

Organizer

Division Restrictions

Organizers can now have the system check each entrant's professional status against an event's division at registration time. This is off by default and is enabled with the new Enforce Division Restrictions checkbox in Competition Settings.

When enabled, the following rules apply to events whose division type is Professional, Amateur, or ProAm:

Solo events check the entering athlete's professional status:
- A Professional division requires the athlete to be marked as professional on their affiliation.
- An Amateur division requires the athlete to not be marked as professional.
- A ProAm division is rejected as invalid — ProAm has no meaning for a solo entry.
Partnered events check the partnership:
- A Professional division requires both lead and follow to be marked as professional.
- An Amateur division requires neither lead nor follow to be marked as professional.
- A ProAm division requires exactly one of the two to be marked as professional.

Divisions with the new All type are never restricted, since they're open to all participants regardless of professional or teaching status.

Partnership Type Indicator

Partnerships are now labeled PRO, AM, or Pro/Am, so it's clear at a glance what kind of partnership you're looking at.

Within a competition, the organizer sees the partnership type as it was at the moment the couple registered, based on each dancer's professional status at that time. If a dancer's professional status changes between registration and the competition, the organizer's view does not change — the entry stays as it was recorded.

Outside a competition — on an athlete's own partnership list, or a studio's partnerships page — the label always reflects each dancer's current professional status.

Features

Events can be filtered by session on the Event Details page.

Enhancement

Enforcing age category requirements has been removed from the system.
Organizers can now remove Solo Entries from the Athlete Registration page.
The Create Competition and Create Event dialogs no longer close when you click the backdrop outside them. They close only via the Close button, so a stray click can't discard a partly filled form.
The Create Competition form now includes a hint on the competition website field, reminding you to include https:// in the URL.
Creating a federation with an abbreviation that's already taken now returns a clear message — "A federation with this abbreviation already exists" — instead of an unhelpful server error.
Dynamic Events: updating a Dynamic Event after its events have been created now propagates the new name, session, and final scoring system to those events — but only to events that haven't started yet. Events already in progress or completed keep the details they ran with.
Corrected button alignment and spacing on the Bib Management, Dynamic Event, and Adjudicator Assignment pages.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue where Solo Entries did not appear on the Organizer's Athlete Registration page.

Studio

Enhancement

The Studio Dancers page now confines a long dancer list to a vertical scrolling area, so the rest of the page stays in view.
Partnerships now display a type badge — PRO, AM, or Pro/Am — on the partnerships page.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue where creating a partnership between managed dancers sometimes failed to load the managed dancers into the selection list.
Fixed an issue where TBA entries were not listed on the Studio Dashboard.

Public

Features

Added a pricing page, with the full pricing model and an interactive estimator that shows what a competition of a given size would cost.
Public users can filter a competition's events by session on the competition detail page.
Added a dedicated 404 page for when a resource can't be found.
Added a user guide for custom Federations, Divisions, Ages, and Proficiencies to the Organizer guide section.

Enhancement

Refreshed the front page, including a new image carousel.
Improved the demo scheduling page.
Button alignment and spacing have been updated throughout the public site.
