Skipping a Round

Overview

Skipping a Round is used when a Round doesn't need to be danced at all — most commonly when so few couples remain in an event that the next round would have the same (or more) entries as the round it's replacing, so the field can move straight to the next round without competing.

Skipping is a Round Manager action available to Scrutineer. It is a one-way action: once a Round is skipped, it cannot be un-skipped, restarted, or otherwise reopened.

What Happens When You Skip a Round

  1. All of the round's non-scratched entries are copied onto the next round (the round with the next-lowest round number — e.g. skipping the Quarterfinal copies entries onto the Semifinal). Each entry keeps its athlete/partnership/team, bib number, and check-in status.
  2. Scratched entries are not copied forward — a couple that scratched out of the skipped round stays out of the competition.
  3. Any recalls already submitted by adjudicators for this round are deleted.
  4. The round's status changes to Skipped, and all of its round dances are marked Skipped as well.
  5. The change is pushed out in real time, so Adjudicator, Emcee, and Deck Captain views update automatically.

Skipping only ever affects the round being skipped and the single next round entries are copied into. It does not change the Event or Competition status.

Conditions for Skipping a Round

A round can be skipped only if all of the following are true:

  • It is not the Final. The Final is the last round of an event, so there's no "next round" to copy entries onto — Skip is never available on a Final.
  • It hasn't already been Finalized. Once a round's results are finalized, its outcome is locked and it can no longer be skipped.
  • It isn't already Skipped. A round can only be skipped once.
  • A next round already exists. The round with the next-lowest round number (e.g. the Semifinal, if you're skipping the Quarterfinal) must already have been created for the event. If it hasn't, skipping fails with "No next round found to skip to." — create that round first (or generate it from the event's round configuration), then skip.

Unlike Start or Finish, Skip does not require the round to be in any particular status first — you can skip a round that's still Created, Queued, In Progress, or Completed, as long as the conditions above are met.

How to Skip a Round

  1. Open the competition's Scrutineer view and go to Round Manager.
  2. Select the round you want to skip from the side navigation.
  3. In the Round Control panel, click Skip.
  4. Confirm in the dialog. The dialog reminds you that skipping marks the round as Skipped and copies all non-scratched entries onto the next round — review the entry list before confirming, since scratched entries will be left behind.

Once confirmed, the round shows a Skipped status badge and its controls (Start, Finish, Restart) disappear, since no further action can be taken on it.
