Finalizing a Preliminary Round
Overview
Finalizing a preliminary round locks in which entries move on to the next round, based on the recalls adjudicators submitted across all of the round's dances. It's the last step in running a non-Final round — after every dance has been judged, Scrutineer reviews the tabulated recall counts and finalizes the list of recalled entries.
This only applies to preliminary rounds — rounds where Final is not set (Prelim, Quarterfinal, Semifinal, etc.). Final rounds are finalized through Placement Tabulation and Approve instead, not through recall finalization.
Finalizing is a Round Manager action available to Scrutineer, from the round's Tabulation tab. It cannot be undone.
What Happens When You Finalize a Preliminary Round
- For every entry in the round, a recall result is saved, recording whether the entry was recalled and how many judges recalled it across the round's dances.
- Entries marked as recalled are enrolled into the next round (the round with the next-lowest round number) with a new Round Entry, carrying over their athlete/partnership/team and bib number.
- Entries not marked as recalled advance no further — the round they just danced is the last one they compete in.
- The round's status changes to Finalized. This is a terminal status: Restart, Skip, and Finish are no longer available on it.
- The Tabulation tab switches to a read-only view showing who was recalled.
Unlike Skip, only entries that make the recall cutoff advance — anyone below the cutoff is done competing in this event.
Conditions for Finalizing a Preliminary Round
- The round must not already be Finalized. Once finalized, results can't be resubmitted.
- The round should be Completed first. Recall counts come from the marks adjudicators submitted for each dance, so finalizing before every dance is finished locks in an incomplete tally. Use Round Control's Finish action, which only becomes available once every dance is Completed or Finalized, before finalizing recalls.
- The round must be a preliminary round, not a Final. Finals use Placement Tabulation and Approve instead.
How to Finalize a Preliminary Round
- Open the competition's Scrutineer view and go to Round Manager.
- Select the round, and make sure every round dance is completed — use each dance's Round Dance Control to Start and Finish it so adjudicators can submit recalls.
- In Round Control, click Finish once all dances are done, moving the round to Completed.
- Open the round's Tabulation tab. It lists every entry with its recall count per dance and a total, sorted with the most-recalled entries at the top.
- Drag the divider line to set how many entries are recalled — it defaults to the round's configured recall target — or leave it where it is.
- Click Finalize and confirm. This cannot be undone.
Once confirmed, the round shows a Finalized status badge, and the Tabulation tab becomes a read-only record of who was recalled.
