Overview
As the Disc Jockey, you play the music for every heat. The Disc Jockey screen tells you what to play, in what order, how many times, and for how long, so you can build your music library and playlist before the competition and follow the floor during it.
The screen has three parts:
- Playlist: one line per heat in a session, in running order.
- Music tally: a shopping list of every dance and how many times it is played.
- Heat details: the dance-by-dance plan for a single heat, which also follows the floor as the heat runs.
Note: The Disc Jockey screen is read-only. The Emcee starts and ends each heat. You follow along and play the music.
The Playlist Tab
Choose a session from the Session menu at the top right. It lists each session with its competition day, such as "Saturday Standard · Sat, Dec 12". The Refresh button reloads the playlist, so press it after the schedule has changed.
Each row is one heat or schedule item. Select a row to open its heat details.
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Time | The planned start time. A colored dot next to it marks a heat that is on deck (Queued) or on the floor (In Progress). |
| Heat | The heat number. A heat combined from several events shows more than one number, such as "3, 5". |
| Item | The name of the heat, such as "Bronze International Standard - Quarter-Final". |
| Style | The style being danced. A heat that mixes styles lists them all. |
| Dances | The dances in the order they are played. |
| × | How many times each dance is played. Each group of competitors dances separately, so each dance is played once per group. |
| Track | The length of each track, as music + fade. For example, 1:30+0:05 is 1 minute 30 seconds of music followed by a 5-second fade. If the tracks in a heat have different lengths, this column shows varies. Hover over the info icon to see each dance's length. |
| Music | The total music the heat needs: every dance, once per group, with its fade. |
Items with no dances, such as breaks, awards and ceremonies, show a dash in the dance columns. Their Music time is the length of the item, so you know how much music to have ready.
Worked Example
Take the first heat in the playlist, a Quarter-Final with five dances:
- The × column says 2, because the heat has two groups of competitors.
- The Track column says 1:30+0:05, so each play takes 1:35 including the fade.
- Five dances, each played twice, makes 10 plays: 10 × 1:35 = 15:50, which is the number in the Music column.
The Heat Details Page
Select a row in the playlist, or a heat in the list on the left, to open its details. Use Playlist at the top to go back, and Previous Heat and Next Heat at the bottom to move through the schedule.
At the top you will see the heat number and name, its status badge, and a summary line such as "International Standard · 2 groups · 15:50 of music". Under it are the Planned and Actual times. Actual shows "Not started" until the heat starts.
The table lists the dances in play order:
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| # | The order of the dance in the heat. |
| Dance | The dance and its style. |
| Plays | How many times to play it. ×2 means play it twice in a row, once for each group. |
| Track | The length of the music. If an info icon appears, the rounds in this heat ask for different lengths and the longest is shown. |
| Fade | The length of the fade at the end of the track. |
| Now | Where the dance stands on the floor. Blank means it is still to come. Dancing means it is on the floor now. Danced means it is done. Skipped means it will not be played. |
The Now column updates by itself as the dances are started and finished, so you do not need to refresh it.
Below the table, Rounds lists the rounds danced in this heat, each with its status. If the item has flights, they are listed under Flights the same way.
Note: The status badge at the top of the page does not change by itself. Press Refresh on the Playlist to see a heat's new status.
A heat with no dances, such as a break or an award, shows a message instead of the table: "No dances in this item. It needs music for its planned length." The length is shown beside it.
The Music Tally Tab
The Music tally tab is your shopping list. It adds up the music the program asks for, so you know which tracks to have ready and how many times each is used.
Use the toggle at the top to choose what is counted: This session or Whole competition.
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Style | The dance style. |
| Dance | The dance. |
| Plays | The number of times the dance is played across everything counted, once per group each time. |
| Track | The length or lengths the dance is played at, the most common first. A dance is usually played at one length. |
| Total | The total music time for the dance, with fades. |
The summary under the table gives the total number of plays and the total dance music. If there are breaks, awards or ceremonies, it adds a line such as "Plus 3:00 for 2 items without dances".
Tips
- Check the Track column for varies and the info icon. Those heats need more than one track length for the same dance.
- The times on screen are planned times. A heat can run early or late, so follow the dot and the Now column on the day.
- If the playlist shows "This session isn't scheduled yet", the organizer has not generated the schedule yet. The heats appear as soon as the schedule is generated.
- If you see "The playlist couldn't be loaded", press Refresh to try again.
Rules and Limits
- Disc Jockeys can view the playlist but cannot start, end or change a heat.
- The music tally counts only what is on the program. It updates when the schedule changes.
