Getting Started with Your Personal Account

A personal account is the account type for an individual — an athlete, adjudicator, scrutineer, organizer, deck captain, or emcee. (This is different from a studio account, which manages a roster of dancers under one login — see the Studio guide for that.)

This guide covers signing up for a personal account, what's inside it, how to manage your affiliation, and how the "applications" you see in your account relate to your roles.

Signing up for a personal account

Go to Create Account and select the Personal tab (it's selected by default).
Enter your first name, last name, email, and a password.
Complete the captcha, then submit.

Your password must be at least 12 characters and include an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number, and a special character.

Your account is ready immediately — there's no approval step. Sign in right away with the email and password you chose. Every new personal account automatically gets the Athlete role (see "Applications and roles" below), so you can register for competitions from the start.

What's in your account

Your account area (Account in the side navigation) has three pages:

Profile — your first name and last name.
Affiliations — your country, state, school/studio, professional/teacher status, and dance federation membership IDs. See the next section for details.
Security — change your password.

Above the Account section, the side navigation also has an Applications panel, listing the role-specific portals you have access to (Athlete, Organizer, Adjudicator, and so on). See "Applications and roles" below.

Managing your personal affiliation

The Affiliations page (Account > Affiliations) records who you dance for and how you're classified:

Country / State — your home country and state. Selecting a country filters the available states, and both filter the school and studio lists below.
School / Studio — the school or studio you're affiliated with.
Professional Dancer / Dance Teacher — checkboxes for your professional and teaching status.
NDCA Membership ID / USA Dance Membership ID — your membership numbers with either federation, if you have them.

Changes save as soon as you submit the form, and you can update your affiliation at any time.

Note: If your account is managed by a studio, your affiliation is set by that studio and this page becomes read-only for you (you'll see a banner explaining this). Ask your studio to update it on your behalf, or reach out to get your own independently-managed account set up.

Applications and roles

"Applications" are the role-specific portals listed in your account's side navigation — Athlete, Adjudicator, Scrutineer, Organizer, Deck Captain, and Emcee. Which ones you see depends on which roles are attached to your account:

Athlete — every personal account gets this automatically at sign-up. It's what lets you register for competitions.
Adjudicator, Scrutineer, Deck Captain, Emcee — you're granted one of these automatically the first time a competition organizer adds you to their event staff in that capacity. There's nothing to request; it shows up in your Applications list as soon as you're staffed on a competition.
Organizer — this one isn't self-service. To run your own competitions, contact [email protected] directly and we'll set up the Organizer role on your account.

Once a role is added, its application stays in your Applications list going forward — it isn't tied to any single competition.

Account > Affiliations: country, state, school/studio, professional/teacher status, and membership IDs.
